Wikwemikong Apprenticeship Program
Our goal is to enhance and ensure the successful completion of apprenticeship training for Wikwemiikong Band Members. Promotion and marketing of apprenticeship initiatives and opportunities encourage Wikwemikong workers to be contributing members of the First Nations Labour Market.
The Wikwemikong Apprenticeship Unit is committed to assisting Wikwemikong Band Members pursuing a career in the skilled trades through a cross referral process with the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU), Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ASETS) and LDM's
Eligible Programs for Apprentices
The program is designed to provide financiial assistance for training in a skill trade apprenticeship program. Wii-ni n'guch-tood L.D.M. will provide tuition, living allowance until EI benefits have been activated, for in-school training.
Each apprentice who participates in the in-school training is required to have specialized tools. Wii-ni n'guch-tood L.D.M. will pay for equipment/supplies of $1,000 annually.
Training books and manuals required will be covered.
Living Away From Home Allowance
Clients attending in-school training is eligible for Living Away From Home Allowance during their training.
Apprentices are encouraged to apply for incentive grants upon completion of each level and completion of training.
